PLUS MINUS

Just read this article of a fellow friend of mine here. She is a rather good friend of mine and hence we do kind of look forward to reading what the other has to say through our blogs. So when I read this latest one where she talks about,as usual a  myriad number of things, there was one statement of hers that really caught my attention, that we gain so much and yet we don't retain what we came with. There are pluses and then there are minuses as well.
Reminded me of the subject I hate and dread the most,Mathematics!!As a child and even quite a grown up child at that,I used to often question my parents, peers and everyone else in the world as to what role will Maths play in our future,WHY do we need it.We are all going to be having nice jobs to do,life partners to search and love, shop, eat, enjoy and face some hard times as well. But in all this, how would the fact that sin theta/cos theta=tan theta help?Or the threads of dy/dx in differentiation make any difference?Would your to-be wife's parents ask you the formula of (a+b)2 or would you ask your wife to explain surds and indices?!The good 'ol days!!So full of innocence and ignorance were they!Little did I know that life,in it's everyday operation would have additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions, probability, ratio and proportion and profit and loss in it!!All of a sudden my solid reasoning against the subject appear nonsensical!
Each of life's opportunities is a word problem, you attempting it is the operational procedure,if you are right, you 'profit',if you fail, you are at a 'loss'. The results you get are 'directly proportional' to your efforts. So is the case with matters of the heart. When you make a friend, your joy multiplies, when that friend abandons you for mysterious reasons, that joy is divided into small pieces. The 'probability' of being able to take yourself out of it depends on how you 'differentiate' between what you thought of that person and the reality. You either make 'progression'  or the 'graph' of your life will fall down.Everything rides on Maths man!!It's all about calculations,'constants' and 'variables' and solving the problems that come in front of you.
And so with life being dominated so widely by a subject I abhor,a consensus had to be reached.A truce had to be called. So I agreed to the superiority and the relevance of Maths in life and Maths in turn promised me fair and accurate results for every problem. We are not the best of friends, but we are getting to get used to each other's presence amiably.
